    Pendant des années, l’Afrique n’a eu qu’un lien très ténu avec Internet: un seul câble sous-marin, le South Atlantic 3 (SAT-3), reliait le sud de l’Europe à l’ouest du continent africain. Sept ans plus tard, de nombreux projets ont été lancés, avec la promesse d’une augmentation significative des débits pour les usagers. Depuis 2009, le câble de fibre optique Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy), long de 10 000 kilomètres, alimente la côte est africaine.

    The Complete World Development Report Online – a World Bank publication (0)

    The World Bank has announced the official launch of the Complete World Development Report Online. The World Development Report (WDR) is the major World Bank analytical publication, and has been published annually since 1978. A link on the site provides access to World Bank Data which provides “free open and easy” access some 2,000 indicators with time series data for more than 200 countries for up to 50 years.

    Launch of ASREN: the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) (0)

    Over 90 delegates from 12 Arab countries gathered the launch of the ASREN in the Egyptian capital, Cairo on December 8, 2010. The Secretary of the League of Arab States, H.E. Amr Moussa, presented in the opening session and expressed his strong support for ASREN and agreed to act as its Honorary President.

    2010 Euro-Africa Week on ICT Research and e-Infrastructures – For immediate release (0)

    Bringing together around 325 attendees coming from 55 different countries over Europe and Africa, the “2010 Euro-Africa Week on ICT Research and e-Infrastructures” took place in Helsinki, Finland, on December 7-10 and ended on a very high note of optimism. Presentations and debates were welcomed with very enthusiastic participation from the delegates and most of the interviewed participants judged the event to be a resounding success, giving a very good or excellent rating to the overall event (including networking opportunities) and content (note: a comprehensive online survey will be soon administrated to all participants).
